Afshars


Turkic people living in Iran, counting about 320,000. Afshars live in two separate regions. In the north, in the lands west of Mashhad and in the south, in the lands south of Kerman.
The Afshar are Azerbaijani speaking, using the Afshar dialect which is strongly influenced by Persian. Afshars of the south share many linguistic similarities with Qashqai.
They originate with the Oghuz Turks, moving into Central Asia from the 9th century.
