Prior to ascending the throne, he served as a co-regent of Amenemhet 3. He completed the temple known today as Medinet Madi, in the Fayoum Oasis.
His reign was peaceful and uneventful, and the decline of the Middle Kingdom appears not to have begun before after his death.

He was was preceded by Amenemhet 3 and succeded by his half-sister, Sobeknefru.
