Ashur-dan 3

Ruler of Assyria 773-755 BCE, 18 years.
He took over an empire very much divided, with unruly dignitaries and local rulers ignoring orders from the royal court. The strong man of the reign before his, the commander-in-chief of the army, Shamshu-ilu, remains in strong position. The empire was in a more difficult state at the end of his reign, than when took over the throne.

773: He succeeds his brother, Shalmaneser 4. It is appears quite possible that this happened by force.
763: A serious revolt breaks out in Ashur, but is soon quenched.
761: A new revolt, in Arpakha.
759: The Arpakha revolt is finally put down, but Assyria is struck by a plague.
755: Is succeeded by his brother, Ashur-nirari 5. It is not clear whether this corresponds with Ashur-dans death.
