Ruler of Assyria ca. 631-ca. 627 BCE, 4 years.
His reign became one of great internal conflicts in the empire. Most serious was the struggler with his twin brother, Sin-shumu-lishir, who also claimed the throne.

631: With father, king Ashurbanipal, dying Ashur-etil-ilani becomes new king of Assyria.
— Foreign tribes raid the empire, Scythians, Cimmerians and Medes, causing great devastation even to the capital Calah, where the Assyrian military proved too weak to offer resistance. The tribes were not out for territorial gains, only loot, and the court and basic administration survived.
627: Ashur-etil-ilani is removed from power, or the empire is divided between two rulers. Sin-shumu-lishir becomes king, alone or parallel to Ashur-etil-ilani.
