Bekaa Valley
Arabic: 'al-biqā¢

Valley of central-eastern Lebanon.
The valley stretches for 120 km along the Litani and Orontes rivers, and is bordered by the Lebanon Mountains (west) and Anti-Lebanon Mountains (east).
The valley makes up half of the arable land of Lebanon, but its agriculture is less effective, largely due to little rainfall between the mountains, and a more difficult climate.
The main cities of the valley are Zahle (60,000 inhabitants) and Baalbek (30,000).
The main activities in the region are agriculture, where grains is the dominating produce. Wine and arak production are important local products.
History
1975-1990: Through the Lebanese Civil War, many battles are fought in the Bekaa Valley.
