Ancient Egypt / Old Kingdom / 5th Dynasty /
Djedkare
Other spellings: Djedkare Isesi; Izezi; Tankeris

Djedkare's pyramid, South Saqqara, Egypt

King of Ancient Egypt, 8th ruler of the 5th Dynasty, ruling 2414-2375 BCE, 39 years.
Despite his long reign, little is known from it, but it appears that there was decentralization of power, involving stronger regional governors, and a weaker position for the king. He built a pyramid, 52 metres high, and a funerary complex at South Saqqara.
It appears that during his reign, titles came to be understood as holding magical power.
A vizier of Djedkare, Ptahhotep, became famous for his wisdom, creating The Maxims of Ptahhotep.
He was preceded by Menkauher and succeeded by Unas.
