Ancient Egypt / 1st Dynasty /
Djet
Other spellings: Wadj; Zet; Uadji

Djet's funerary stele from Abydos

King of Egypt, 4th king of the 1st Dynasty, ruling from sometime around 3040 to 2980 BCE.
Nothing is known of his reign, not even its length.
He was buried at Abydos, in a rectangular wood-lined burial chamber, surmounted by a brick-cased mound of sand or rubble. On top of this, there was a rectangular superstructure. Next to his tomb, his funerary stele was found, probably the finest from the 1st Dynasty.
According to accepted king lists, he was preceded by Djer as king and succeeded by Den, or his wife, Queen Merneith.
