Dogubeyazit

Town in eastern Turkey with 50,000 inhabitants (2004 estimate) at an elevation of 1,800 metres above sea level.
Dogubayazit is the trading centre for animal products from its surrounding region.
Dogubayazit lies near the ancient trade route between Trebizond (now Trabzon) and northwestern Persia. Today it is a transit station on the main highway between Europe and Iran. It is connected to other urban centres by road, Agri 50 km west, Van 185 km southwest and Erzurum 300 km west. The border to Iran is 25 km east.
The main landmark of Dogubayazit is the 18th century fortress of Isak Pasha Sarayi slightly southeast of town centre. The fortress is a unique mixture of practically every available style in 18th century Anatolia.
