Dynasty of Ancient Egypt 1295-1186 BCE, 109 years, consisting of 8 rulers. It is defined as part of the New Kingdom.
This dynasty was founded by the vizier Ramses, replacing the 18th Dynasty which since long had not been ruled by hereditary kings, rather by high-ranking officials taking the position as king, namely Ay and Horemheb.
The apex of the dynasty came with the 2nd and 3rd rulers, Seti 1 and Ramses 2, father and son, who ruled for more than 80 years (almost 3/4 of the entire dynasty). Merneptah, the successor to Ramses 2, ruled for 10 years, a reign brief from his elevated age. The dynasty's last 17 years, before the shift to the 20th, was dominated by division and internal conflicts.
The 19th Dynasty's most important political achievements were the conquests in the Levant, in the lands of modern Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.
The 19th Dynasty saw one of the most profiled kings of Egyptian history, the megalomanic Ramses 2, building grand monuments all over Egypt.
