Town in southwestern Iran with 90,000 inhabitants (2003 estiamte) in the Fars Province situated on a plain among high limestone ridges.
Kazerun is primarily the centre of an agricultural region, where mainly dates, citrus, wheat and tobacco are grown, together with some rice, cotton and vines.
There are a number of important ruins around Kazerun, like the ancient city of Bishapur with Sassanid bas-reliefs and a statue of Shahpur 1, dating back to the 3rd century CE. To the south lies a ruined castle built by the Zoroastrians.
Kazerun is connected by road to province capital Shiraz, 150 km east, and Bushehr on the Persian Gulf, 250 km southwest.
