Language isolate


A language that cannot be defined to belong to a family group; in contrast to most languages that form groups based upon genealogical relationship with other languages.
Some of these language's family groups may have consisted of several languages upon a time, then only one survives. Some simply have no other language identified, existing or extinct, that can be identified as in relationship. In this encyclopaedia, the languages below are Language isolate, as well as extinct:

Elamite (ca. 2500-330 BCE)
Hattic (before 3rd millennium BCE-2nd century CE)
Sumerian language (before 3100 BCE-around 0)
