Mentuhotep 4
Other spelling: Nebtawyre

King of Ancient Egypt, the 7th and last ruler of the 11th Dynasty, ruling 1992-1985 BCE, 7 years.
Extremely little is known about this king and his reign. He belongs to the group of kings that are reconstructed to fit the chronology of Egyptian kingship. On the Turin Canon, there is an opening of 7 years, into which Mentuhotep 4 has been fit, and he is not at all mentioned on the king lists in Abydos. Still, there are inscriptions of his in quarries on the Red Sea coast and a stone bowl from Lisht.
The shift from Mentuhotep 4 to the 12th Dynasty is a matter of discussion. It is suggested that Mentuhotep 4 had no children, allowing his vizier, Amenemhet, to easily assume power on his death.
