Nectanebo 2

King Nectanebo 2

King (360- 343 BCE) of Egypt, belonging to the 30th Dynasty. We do not know when he was born, nor when he died.
The name "Nectanebo" was given to him by the Egyptian historian Mantho. His real name was Nakhthorheb.
Nectanebo 2 is famous for being the last native Egyptian king.
Nectanebo could take control of the Egyptian throne after a coup against King Tachos. It was not staged by Nectanebo, but after the Spartan king Agesilaus 2 had defeated the usurper, the ground was paved for Nectanebo.
Nectanebo appears not to have been a strong king, having to flee from the army of the Persian king Artaxerxes 3 Ochus which had taken control of Egypt. The last we know of Nectanebo is that he fled to Upper Egypt, but we don't know for how long he lived.
