Little is known of his actual reign. The era of the 5th Dynasty was one where religion and religious cults became more important. There was an increase in the number of priests and officials. The rulers of Egypt both elevated the cult of Re all over Egypt, with the construction of several sun-temples, at the same time as they paid more attention to local cults.

He had his funerary complex built a couple of kilometres south of the sun-temple. In consists of a pyramid, 51 metres high, of which the core still exists, and a mortuary temple.
He was preceded by Raneferef and succeeded by Menkauher.
