Orontes River
Arabic: nahru l-cāsiyy

River of Lebanon, Syria and Turkey, 400 km long.
The river originates in the Bekaa Valley, from where it flows northward. It passes between the Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon mountains. Its main tributaries are Kura Su, Afrin and Odi Mediani.
In Syria, the river forms the Lake of Homs, formed by an antique dam.
The most important cities along its run are Homs, Hama (Syria) and Antakya, Turkey.
Kadesh, the site of the famous battle between Ramses 2's Egypt and the Hittites is on the Orontes River.
