Ptolemy 3 Euergetes 1

(282-221 BCE) King of Egypt 245-221. He was part of the Ptolemaic dynasty and son of Ptolemy 2.
During his reign the Egyptian control over Cyrenaica was strengthened. He also invaded Syria as the Seleucids were suspected of planning to murder the sister of Ptolemy, together with her son, the heir of the Syrian throne. Hence, large areas of the Levant came under Egyptian control.
As with his father, culture flourished under Ptolemy. He had the great temple of Edfu built. He reformed the Egyptian calendar, where the start of the Ptolemaic dynasty was set to be year 0. The collections of the library of Alexandria grew considerably under his reign.
