Qatar has presently only 1 university, corresponding to a university density of 1:830,000 inhabitants, placing Qatar as no. 11 of 22 in the MENA region.
Efforts by Qatari government has secured the establishment of so far 9 satellite campuses of US, Canadian and Dutch universities, 6 of them located to the ambitious project of the Education City. Each offer exchange programs, the number of resident students count a few hundred for each institution.
The University of Qatar is ranked 3729 in the world by Webmetrics, reflecting that there is still a lot to do before the government's ambitions of making Qatar a centre of education are accomplished.
