Sanakhte
Other spellings: Nebka; Mesochris
King of Egypt, 1st king of the 3rd Dynasty, ruling 2686-2667 BCE, 19 years. His name meant "Strong protection."
It is suggested that Sanakhte became king by marrying a daughter of Khasekhemwy, the last of the 2nd Dynasty kings.
Manetho describes him as a particularly tall man. He was most likely central in beginning mineral exploitation in Sinai, involving turquoise and copper.
Very few items remain from his reign. There is a mastaba at Abydos in which fragments with his name have been found. This is also possibly his grave, bones found here indicate a tall man. From Maghara, Sinai, there is a sandstone fragment showing a relief of him about to slay an enemy.
He was succeeded by Zoser, possibly his brother, and the most famous king of the 3rd Dynasty.
