Persian: saqqez

City in north-western Iran with 135,000 inhabitants (2009 estimate), in the Kordestan Province, at an elevation of 1,490 metres.
Saqqez has cold, snowy winters and hot, dry summers. The inhabitants of Saqqez are Kurds, and the language spoken is Kurdish.
History
Around 1000 BCE: Saqqez is first inhabited by the Medes.
Early 1st millennium CE: Saqqez is the main settlement of the small kingdom of Sagapeni.
