Smenkhkare
King of Ancient Egypt 1338-1336 BCE, 2 years, probably in coregency with Akhenaten, as the 11th ruler of the 18th Dynasty.
It is generally believed that Smenkhkare was brother to Tutankhamun, the next king's. It is likely that he was the son of Amenophis 3. His rise to power came by marrying Akhenaten's oldest daughter.
It is not clear whether he ruled alone for a period or not. If he did, this must have been between 1337 and 1336 BCE.
Of main actions, there is likewise uncertainties. It appears to be clear that he acted from Thebes, the Egyptian capital before Akhenaten had built his Akhetaton. Here it is believed by many scholars the he restored the old religion, and possibly saved the ruling dynasty.
The cause of his death is not known.
