2009 Presidential & Legislative elections

In Tunisia, election for president held October 25, 2009, giving sitting president Zine el Abidine Ben Ali 89.3% of the votes; this being the lowest score he has ever received.
Number two was Mohamed Bouchiha with 5.0% of votes, third Ahmed Inoubli 3.8%, fourth Ahmed Brahim 1.6%.
Most commentators have expressed that the opposing candidates were largely cosmetic, but Ahmed Brahim ran a campaign calling himself "a real opposition candidate" but with little success.
Elections were by the USA criticized for lack of transparency; Tunisia claimed that observers from 23 had stated differently.
