Zaza

People of southeastern Turkey, counting between 1 and 2 million. Due to politics and lack of independent data, the figures are highly uncertain.
The Zaza has generally been classified as Kurds, but they claim to represent their own ethnic group, with a culture and identity distinct from the Kurds.
The Zaza speak a West-Iranian language called Zazaki, which similar to the matters of ethnicity, has earlier been classified under Kurdish. Similar to the Dimili language (mainly Iran), Zazaki's relation to Kurdish is clear, though, but influences from other languages and an independent history have set them apart.
