Library of Alexandria, Egypt

I first passed by here in 1999, when the museum since long should have been finished and opened. But due to Egyptian inefficiency and several disagreements between those involved, this was what it looked like. Being of the same country as the architects, I was offered a guided tour around the building site by the chief architect (who again was Austrian...). I found it almost as impressive as I found the final result several years later. I especially loved the effect of the scaffolding in strong colours, and also seen the granite lying on the ground before it was placed up on the curved exterior walls.
