This mosque was built in 1334 by the sultan who has given it its name. It is today the only well-preserved Mameluke structure in the Citadel. It has two minarets and two entrances, of which one was reserved for the sultan. It used to be more beautiful, but in 1517 all marble panels of the interior were removed and shipped off to Istanbul. Still the mosque has a couple of attractions, like the arcade courtyard, and the original minaret. The minarets were covered with ceramic tiles by Persian craftsmen.
