GIZA:
House boats and the Nile

House boats of Giza, Egypt

A house boat is an obviously good idea in Cairo; fresh in the summer and always with a nice view. But they were so attractive and the quay area so limited, that most have been turned into clubs and restaurants. Ordinary citizens couldn't meet up with the rate increases.
But even that has gone; clubs in North Africa usually tend to mean one thing, and that one thing (we're talking rich men and not so rich women meeting each other in privacy) was not approved by religious authorities. So what will be the future of the house boats, nobody knows. Some of the boats are just as charming as they are old, and will not last long.
