BEN AMERA:
2nd largest monolith in the world

Ben Amera

Ben Amera

The Ben Amera is probably Mauritania's best kept secret, as it is the second largest monolith in the world. The famous Ayers Rock is the only one bigger.
There are some other monoliths nearby, like the Aicha monolith (picture to the left).
Ben Amera is one of the best attractions on the route for the desert train between Nouadhibou and Zouerate.

Eat and Sleep
Nothing, go for camping and bring your own provisions.

Transportation
The only likely way of getting out here is with the Nouadibou-Choum train. It often will allow for short stops, but there might not be much time for climbing the monolith.
