Standing next to the Great Mosque, the madrasa of Sale is the main attraction of the two, much because it is open to all visitors, not only Muslims. The madrasa is slightly younger than the mosque, built by the command of Sultan Abu al-Hassan. The decorations of the madrasa follows the same patterns seen in Merenid madrasas in Fez and Meknes. The walls begin with zellij mosaics, carved stucco higher up, and on top cedar woodwork that merges with the ceiling. The narrow cells around the main courtyard were the sleeping rooms of students attending the madrasa. Don't forget to get up to the roof, from where you will have great views of town as well as to Rabat across the river. The madrasa has at times been closed for restoration. If open, admission is 10dh, open daily 9.00-12.00 and 14.30-18.00.
