Red and friendly

Smara in Morocco, where the river is dry most of the year
Smara is nice. And that is surprising, since most people living in neighbouring cities, seem to think so. Everything here is small-scale, but walks around the town does not get boring. And there is even a fair collection of sights here, too.
The zawiyya of the Blue Sultan is the greatest sight here. But even the mosque is a must for anyone coming to Smara, as it has a design very different from anything I have seen elsewhere in Morocco.

A leftover from the Spanish are the strange military barracks, which now has been turned into dwellings for the locals
