Costs
The currency of the Sudan is the new dinar, but old junayhs are apparently still circulating. The exchange rates are fairly correct, compared to what is found in other Arab countries. But still there is room for a black market, with rates up to 50% better than the ones in banks. But there is a risk involved in using the black market, and you can end up getting arrested. But changing money, will often depend on whether you have US$ or not, and then only in big cities. Traveller's checks, too, can only be changed in larger centres. Note that in some areas of the Sudan, as well as neighbouring countries, East-African currencies are often preferred to Western. This is because of little chance of getting abroad, and a limited range of contraband in almost any region, off the Red Sea coast.
