KERKOUANE:
Museum and the wooden coffin
Kerkouane, Tunisia

The museum of Kerkouane has a small collection of nice and interesting items. There is really just one superb item, a Punic wooden coffin found in the necropolis in the hills 500 metres in from the coast. It is sometimes called Lady of Kerkouane, having the face of the goddess Ashtart carved into it. Ashtart was the protector of the dead. This coffin is the only of its kind.
Other interesting objects include vases and jewellery.
