SIRESSI:
Triumphal arches out here?
Siressi, Tunisia

Siressi, Tunisia

Northern arch, where there is obvious proof that some people somewhere care about this place.

For the first time in my life I am an explorer! Siressi does not exist on maps, nor in any guide books I have seen. Not even on Google (until these articles, of course).
I was on my way from Ksar Lemsa to the more famous Thuburbo Majus driving through a landscape of corn fields and green forests. Then there is a triumphal arch out on the fields! Where no such should be!
I grabbed my camera, and ran across the fields, to find the arch on the top photo. Passing through it I see more of the Roman city to which it once served as the southern entrance. But I had no clue as to what place this was. Only that the modern village was named Oum El Abouab.

Siressi, Tunisia

Across the river from the southern arch, you soon arrive at the Capitol. This is yet untouched by archaeologists, looking what many other Tunisian monuments must have looked before the arrival of modern times.

PRACTICALITIES
Oum El Abouab has a few food stores, but that's it. Getting out here is not difficult if you have plenty of time to catch some form of public transport (from Siliana or El Fahs (Thuburbo Majus), or your own vehicle.
Turn south from the road between El Fahs and Siliana/Maktar, in direction of Oum El Abouab, 40 km from Siliana or 25 km from El Fahs. From there it is 8 km to Oum El Abouab. Park at the southern end of the village.
