THUBURBO MAJUS:
Capitol and the Forum
Thuburbo Majus, Tunisia

Thuburbo Majus, Tunisia

The Capitol and Forum were built around 168 CE, which is about 140 years after the Romans made this a veterans' colony.
The Forum was 49 times 49 metres and was colonnaded on the 3 sides not facing the Capitol. The Capitol today stands with 13 stairs to a platform beneath 6 fluted Corinthian columns, each 8.5 metres high, made by Carrara marble. The Capitol was dedicated to the triad of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. All that have survived of the god statues is the head and a foot of Jupiter. It now stands in the Bardo Museum in Tunis.
